The Time of the Seventh Fire

My baby moccasins, turtle family

"In the time of the Seventh Fire New People will emerge. They will retrace their steps to find what was left by the trail. Their steps will take them to the Elders who they will ask to guide them on their journey. But many of the Elders will have fallen asleep. They will awaken to this new time with nothing to offer. Some of the Elders will be silent because no one will ask anything of them. The New People will have to be careful in how they approach the Elders. The task of the New People will not be easy.

If the New People will remain strong in their quest the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a rebirth of the Anishinabe Nation and a rekindling of old flames. The Sacred Fire will again be lit.

It is this time that the light skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. If they choose the right road, then the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth and final Fire, an eternal fire of peace, love brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race makes the wrong choice of the roads, then the destruction which they brought with them in coming to this country will come back at them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth's people."

This is the seven fire prophecies of the Ojibwe people, shared with me by my gwiima, the one who named me. The first six prophecies have already been fulfilled.

The first prophet telling the people to follow the sign of the Megis. The sacred Midewiwin lodge was formed and people were told to journey to the turtle shaped island, which is linked to the purification of the earth.

The second prophet told the people of their misdirection after losing site of the sacred shell. During this time the Midewiwin had diminished in strength, but the dreams of a little boy will point the way back to the true path, the stepping stones to their future.

When the people find the path of lands that have been prepared for them, the third prophet said they will arrive west to a place where food grows on water.

The fourth prophet was two who came as one. The first prophet said we will know the future of our people by what face the light skinned race wears. If they come wearing a face of brotherhood, Nee-kon-nis-i-win, with knowledge and a handshake, then there will be a time of change for generations to come.

But the second prophet warned the people to beware of if the light skinned race came wearing the face of Ni-boo-win, Death. Their hearts will be filled with greed for the riches of this land. You shall know that the face they wear is one of death if the river runs with poison and fish are unfit to eat.

During the time of the fifth fire, the prophet spoke of great struggles that gripped the lives of all native people. The people will be lead astray with false promises and false hope. This will cause near destruction of the people.

The sixth prophet told them that in the time of the sixth fire it will be evident that the promise of the fifth fire was false. Those deceived by

the promises will take their children away from the teachings of the Chi-ah-ya-og, elders. The elders will lose their purpose in life, and a new sickness will come among the people. The balance of many people will be disturbed.

This leads us into today...the seventh fire prophecy. A time when a younger prophet who had a glowing light in his eyes, the Osh-ki-bi-ma-di-zeeg.

During this time the new people will find strength in the way of the circle, with instruction and guidance from the elders. The Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will sound its voice, and wisdom will be found in dreams of night and day.

At this time, the light skinned race will have two roads they can take... one leading to destruction for all peoples, or one that leads to the eternal fire of peace, love, brotherhood and sisterhood.

I will to vibrate out the power of water, through the unconditional love of the hoof clan, towards the road of peace, love and relations. Miigwetch...Thank you

Gizaagin, I love you
